History

Datamax-O’Neil has been helping companies with their bar code and label/receipt printing requirements for more than three decades. From desktop and industrial-strength printers to rugged portable printers designed to meet the demands of today’s worldwide mobile workforce, we have a history of developing and delivering powerful solutions that help customers improve their performance and better compete, innovate and grow their businesses.

We have grown from a small eight-person team in the mid-1970s to a global company that today serves customers that range from the corner store to multinational enterprises. The following is a snapshot of the milestones that continue to shape our company:

1977 – Datamax founded as engineering consultant company in Orlando, FL

1981 – O'Neil Product Development is established in Irvine, CA

1985 – Datamax develops admissions/event ticketing system

1987 – Datamax develops line for airline ticketing

1988 – O’Neil Product Development turns its focus to portable printers

1993 – Datamax acquires Fargo bar code product line

1993 – O’Neil Product Development offers the industry's first portable printer to incorporate Flash memory

1995 – Datamax sells airline ticketing line to focus on bar code printing

1995 – Datamax expands product line from 2 to 5 printers

1995 – O'Neil Product Development introduces the industry's first portable wireless IrDA-compatible printer

1996 – Datamax acquires Pioneer labels

1999 – Datamax introduces “Class” products

2001 – O'Neil Product Development offers its portable printers to international customers

2004 – Datamax acquired by Dover Corporation

2004 – O’Neil Product Development sales increased nearly 50 percent from previous year

2004 – Dover Corporation creates Product Identification Group

2006 – O’Neil Product Development acquired by Dover Corporation

2006 – Integration of Datamax and O’Neil initiated

2009 – Datamax-O’Neil introduced to marketplace

2009 – Datamax-O’Neil acquires Extech Instruments Data Systems Division

2011 – Datamax-O’Neil becomes part of Dover's Printing & Identification Segment
