Product Manager - Portables -CA

The Product Manager is responsible for the total product life cycle management and ensuring maximum value to Datamax-O’Neil through definitive profitable growth.  The primary tasks are defining value propositions to Customers and ensuring Datamax-O’Neil and Channel Partners are capable of efficient delivery.   This responsibility applies throughout the product life from idea to end of product use

Essential responsibilities include the following:

Product Strategy and Planning  -  30%

• Responsible for all necessary participation in overall product strategy, research and development requirements, development, and manufacturing coordination for new and emerging products
• Create and maintain understanding of value
• Participate in customer visits, sales and fulfillment activities
• Coordinate technical product development, estimates of potential profits, and release to production
• Formulate strategy for delivery of customer value at Portfolio and individual Product Level including:
  • Market and Competitive Analysis, Segmentation, Targeting and Positioning
  • Creating and maintaining product roadmaps
  • Facilitate new product launches  -  planning and execution
  • Design customer value delivery systems
  • Conducts Voice of the Customer (VOC) to identify, define and pursue new business opportunities

Product Life Cycle Management – 70%

• Develop, maintain and communicate integrated product definition and business plans, positioning, pricing, and forecasting for assigned products
• Create and maintain value propositions (VP)
• Create, prepare operative, effective product development objectives and schedules for all phases or product development and introduction to market
• Effective management of day-to-day progress of product, including the maintenance of all documentation required to support the 5-phase product life cycle
• Conduct effective marketing analysis to develop product definitions
• Conduct meaning market research and identify / track market trends in the industry
• Produce meaningful, productive competitive analysis materials comparing product with its key competitors
• Coordinate and develop meaningful marketing, sales, engineering, and financial plans for product line
• Provide efficient/productive technical expertise and training to other departments in support of product development
• Effective collaboration with a wide range of functional areas such as Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations and Marketing to develop and provide product definitions that are responsive to customer needs and market opportunities
• Ensure effective training and support is provide to Sales Channels on the product features, selling methods, implementation, and product use
• Effective support the product development process with the R&E teams
• Identify partnering opportunities for complementary third-party products to broaden company’s product line
• Develop and maintain a prioritized list of customer and market requirements for product.
• Collaborate with Marketing Communication and Distribution, develop promotion programs for assigned products incl. advertising, publicity, direct mail, trade shows, sales aids, special promotions, training materials, manuals and introduction / launches.
• Effective participation in key sales situations for the product.

• Participate in all company training and commit to D-O objectives / mission to ensure powerful team collaboration and execution with all “internal” customers / suppliers’ relationship philosophy (across all departments) so as to enable D-O’s overall financial and customer goals are achieved.
• Participate in continuous professional development / training to effectively liaise and interact with diverse range of company team members….so as to ensure the best results are obtained.

Travel

• Travel estimated u to 20%
• Possible 50% during Product Launch period
• May include international travel

• Strong experience and proven skills re: Product Strategy and Planning

• Demonstrated experience and understanding of the Sales Process/Techniques

• Essential desire / need / ability to be ‘empowered’ to make the best decision for the Customer and Company alike
• Strong Computer software / MRP skills  -  MS Office, SAP, Outlook, etc.

• BS in Marketing, Engineering or Business Management with MBA highly desirable
• Min. 6 yrs’ Product Management experience – ideally in a global or national manufacturing / supply chain organization  .. Proficient understanding of Auto ID, and/or, Thermal Printers, Electronics, etc. industries…
• Min. 3 yrs’ Global Product Management experience – for technical products and services in an industrial platform
